I stumbled upon this comment on Facebook the other day, from a mom of two club members recommending Bobbledy to one of her friends. It was such a nice statement of what Bobbledy Books means to her family that I asked her for permission to reprint it.
Eunice wrote: “Hey! – I would definitely recommend Bobbledy Books for Gaby and Charlotte! Full disclosure: Bobbledy Books was started by my college classmates Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr, so I might be biased, but here’s why I’m a big fan. Matthew is a writer. Robbi is an illustrator. Together they run a small press. They are incredibly gifted artists (and parents of 3 little kids) who know how to make creative pursuits accessible to the rest of us. I love that book making has turned into a normal part of the boys’ week. That Spencer and Tyler don’t think it’s remarkable to be in regular communication with a published author and illustrator. That when we get a book in the mail, the boys feel like it was written for them. That they feel connected to kids being creative across the country (What is Alden going to paint this week? Exactly how old is Diego because his stuff is REALLY good!). And icing on the cake: each year some little kid gets their story PUBLISHED by Bobbledy Books. For Spencer and Tyler, that’s the equivalent of saying, “You could be President of the United States some day!” except for this they don’t have to wait until they’re 35. Sign the girls up!
Thanks, Eunice, for your kind words. This type of excitement about and involvement with writing, drawing, and just plain creating is exactly the sort of thing we hoped would happen when we started Bobbledy Books. And the idea that we’re going to be able to make some kid feel like he or she is President of the United States is our idea of icing.
