Singing is one of my favorite things to do. I’ve been singing since I was little. I sing at Christmas. I sing on birthdays. I sing with my harmonica. I sing with my guitar. I sing with other people. I sing when I’m alone. I sing songs that everyone knows and I sing songs that I make up based on what’s happening at that very moment. Just ask my kids. For now, they like my singing, but I’m afraid that some time soon they will look at me and ask me to be quiet. Singing dads get embarrassing at a certain point, apparently. Thank goodness we’re not there yet.

I’ve been thinking of singing lately because very soon now (in just over a week, actually), you Bobbledy club members are going to be getting an album of children’s music in the mail. The album is called I Don’t Wanna Brush My Teeth, which, of course, is a silly title because of course you want to brush you teeth. Everyone does. But sometimes the names of things are ironic, and this is one of those cases. Anyway, the album is full of songs that I know you’ll want to sing because Alden and Kato (our two oldest kids) have been singing them over and over again since the moment they first heard them (because they live here with us, they got to listen to the album a little early. I hope you don’t think that’s too unfair.)

But as for the prompt, this week I want you guys to draw someone or some thing that’s singing. Maybe it’s you and maybe it’s an elephant or maybe it’s a group of purple anteaters. Whatever you like.

When she heard the prompt, Robbi sat down and did this painting. I like it very much.

Even though Robbi lacked the imagination to draw something less obvious than a singing bird, don’t feel like you have to. Birds are just one of the many things that can sing. In fact, I think everything can sing. Even rocks. Even slugs. Even slugs who are asleep.

In addition to drawing someone (or something) singing, please tell us what he, she, it, or they is or are singing. Is it a cheerful tune? Is it a solemn dirge? Is it rock n’ roll?

We can’t wait to see (and hear) what you come up with.

Send your drawings to me by next Tuesday afternoon so that I can post them on the blog next Wednesday.
