Hello! We are so happy to welcome you to Bobbledy Books. As we do, we should probably introduce ourselves. So here goes.
We are Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr.
Matthew writes stories, and Robbi draws pictures.
We live together in the hayloft of an old barn with our three small kids, two old cats, and one blue dog.
We make books together all day long.
Sometimes we make books for grown-ups and sometimes we make books for kids, but no matter what kind of books we make, they always have pictures and words.
A long time ago, we used to have regular jobs.
What we really wanted to do was make books together. But at the end of every day, we came home from work and were always too tired to make books.
And so we decided to make a big change in our lives. We quit our jobs and sold our house in Baltimore and moved back to the town where Robbi grew up. Fortunately, her parents had a place for us to liveāthe hayloft of an old barn that was full of junk.
We cleaned out the junk and moved ourselves in. The very next day, we started making books together. Our books were about things like consumerism, self-image, and traffic theory. In other words, they were for grown-ups.
To our surprise, a lot more people were interested in our books than we had thought. We sent them out through a subscription service to people all over the country and world.
People kept buying our books, and so we kept making them. All the time.
We were still pretty tired.
But because we were making books, we were as happy as could be.
So we had a few kids.
Ate lots of ice cream.
And drove around sharing our books with everyone we met.
One day, we met a man who liked our grown-up books but said that we should make books for kids, too. We thought about it for about five minutes.
And decided that it was a really good idea. And so we decided to start Bobbledy Books.
Bobbledy Books is a club for kids who like to read, write, draw, and sing.
Throughout each year, we’ll send books and music to kids while encouraging them to write stories, draw pictures, and send them to us. Bobbledy is about having fun by being creative. It’s about making stuff and sharing it with other people. Here’s how it works.
We worked and planned and figured things out for more than a year. And then, one day, Bobbledy Books began. That day is today. We’re so glad you’re here.
We don’t know where we’re going, but we’re looking forward to finding out.
And we sure hope that you’ll join us for the ride.
See you tomorrow.

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the Bobbledy Blog!
Fantastic! Love, love the whole shebang! Huge congrats from Northern California!
(Uh, oh…I see there is math involved. Fingers crossed that my comment takes…)
Thanks, Clare! You are our wunder-commenter.
I can’t describe the frenzied excitement going on over here. August just passed out over it.
This is so great! I am kid-less but LOVE kids’ books, especially super cool ones like yours. I would like to give a gift subscription to the 3 children of a good friend; is that cheap, making them share it?? Either way, any suggestions on whose birthday I pick? Or can they get a card for some random holiday, like arbor day? Help! and Thanks!
Hello Rita: Sorry for the slow reply, but we have been doing our best to work out some kinks. Now there is a solution to the scenario you describe. The basic, one-kid subscription costs $60 and includes five books, one album, one crayon, and a birthday card. Now we’ve added a way to upgrade the subscription to accommodate additional kids. For $5 per extra kid, each extra kid gets his/her own birthday card and his/her own “make your own” book. The regular books and the album are easy to pass around, but the “make your own” book, which the kid is meant to write and draw in and the birthday card, which is actually a prompt for the kid to make his own drawing, are much harder to share. There’s a drop-down menu on the club membership page in the Bobbledy Shop that lets you add extra kids to the subscription. Thanks for asking!
Thanks Matthew! I’ll be ordering soon…
