Hello, everyone. Last Friday, Tilly posted this prompt:

Have you ever been surprised by something you saw out a window? Maybe during a car ride you saw a clown selling pizza on a street corner. Or perhaps you’ve noticed two squirrels in a boxing match right outside your bathroom window. Go look out of a window, whether it be from your aunt’s house, the school bus, or a candle factory, and draw what you see!

Here’s a drawing (and some thoughts) from Joe:

“Out the window, I see a Gorilla (playing with a train that says J-O-E with its wheels) and a Monster.  I see couple of Trees and a Birdie. I see a Rabbit with big red ears and a Dragon trapped in a house.”

Joe’s world is quite the menagerie. The inside of his head must be quite large. And loud!

We read the prompt to Alden, and she knew right away what she wanted to draw: a picture of our family (including the cats, apparently) looking out the window of our underwater car.

I had no idea that our family had an underwater car, but Alden assures me that we do. I’d like to spend some time in that car, in that beautiful blue and purple ocean. Doesn’t it look cozy in there?

She likes to paint on the big, flat table where we make our books.

She makes a mess, and we wipe it up when she’s done.

When it came time to do my drawing, I didn’t use as much imagination as Alden did. Instead, I sat at my desk and looked out the window in front of me. This is what I saw.

From where I sit, I can see the rooftops of the buildings across the street. I can see a big tree and lots of leaves. I love the way the leaves sound when the wind blows.

Spencer and Tyler were clearly in imagination mode.

Spencer sent this drawing and this explanation, “There’s a rocket out my window with flames burning up the platform. There’s a tornado sucking up the house and trees.”

I think the people flying the rocket are quite brave to blast off in the midst of a tornado? Or perhaps they are escaping the planet in the final moments before the tornado consumes everything?

And here’s Tyler’s drawing and explanation: “Mama’s driving the car. I’m in the back looking out the window and I see a wild robot. He has a drill as one hand and pincers as the other hand. He’s yelling, ‘Go back that way!!!'”

Wild robot, indeed. I love how Tyler drew the robot’s mouth. What a scowl! I hope that he and Mama are going to be ok.

Apparently, Garcia sees a giant evil flying banana outside his window.

I’m so glad I’m not in Garcia’s house right now, because his brother Diego saw something just as scary: “himself in the Devil’s playhouse,” according to his mom, who went on to mention that, “He had a rough weekend.”

Scary stuff!

The boys’ dad Michael saw this when he looked out the window.

He must have been looking out a window on the other side of the house.

And here’s Robbi’s drawing. She looks out the same window I do when she works, so this window is an imagined one.

I just asked her what she was thinking when she did this drawing, and she said that it doesn’t really matter what she sees when she looks out the window as long as there are birds. That bird in Robbi’s drawing seems to be singing as loudly as he can. I wonder what he sounds like. The problem with drawings is that they don’t make sounds.

Even though, sometimes, they kind of do.
