A few days ago, we got an email from a Bobbledy mom named Peggy. She was kind enough to share a bit of dialogue between herself and her three-year-old daughter Julie.

“This was a recent conversation Julie and I had as she was hop-scotching around the colors on our oriental rug.

Julie:  (said in a sinister three year old voice) Mommy, if you step on red an AWFUR will come.

Mama: An author?  The kind that writes books?

Julie: Yup. AWFUR. You know dem guys are nice…but some awfers are BAAAAAD.”

And then, as if to emphasize her point, Julie made this face, which her mom was kind enough to send along. I just can’t tell whether to interpret it as a warning…or a threat.

I suppose it’s good that Julie already knows that authors are not to be trusted. My own children, forced to live under the same roof as one, are blissfully unaware of the danger they are in. That said, count me among the authors too intimidated by Julie’s accusatory finger and leering eyes to risk crossing her.
