I woke up this morning to a fluttering cacophony of tiny squeaks and screeches. Lying in bed, I opened my eyes to see a colony of bats flying upwards outside my bedroom window. Their upward movement, though quick, was scattered. Unlike birds, who can fly in graceful swoops, the bats flew in uneven zig-zags. It seemed like they just barely missed flying into each other. I often see flocks of blackbirds swirling high and low above fields, through trees, and just about anywhere. It was a surprise to start the day with a colony of bats flying overhead.

Here’s me in my room looking up to the window.

It happened so quickly. I was asleep, then suddenly a thousand tiny creatures zoomed by my head.

Here’s the drawing prompt for this week: Have you ever been surprised by something you saw out a window? Maybe during a car ride you saw a clown selling pizza on a street corner. Or perhaps you’ve noticed two squirrels in a boxing match right outside your bathroom window. Go look out of a window, whether it be from your aunt’s house, the school bus, or a candle factory, and draw what you see!

When you’re done with your drawing, scan it or take a picture of it and send it to Matthew so he can post it next Tuesday for everyone to see.
