As parents go, I guess we’re pretty lax. About bedtimes, dress code, and…

…haircuts.

We’ve known for a long time that Kato was long overdue. Yesterday morning, we let him know that the time had come for drastic measures. His response was “I don’t need a haircut. I look great.”

Alden had a different interpretation.

It took a combination of promises and threats, but Kato eventually agreed to let Robbi approach his head with her scissors.

It wasn’t so bad.

Because she is an artist, and because moms basically get to do whatever the heck they want to, Robbi decided to only cut one half of Kato’s hair at a time. So that we could get some freaky half-haircut shots.

Truth be told, I kind of like this look. And so, apparently, does Kato.

Alas, all quirky transitional haircut moments must come to an end. The scissors continued their march, and eventually Kato’s hair was completely domesticated.

It suits him, I think. I’ve seldom seen the boy look as confident, calm, and carefree.

Though perhaps the shades have something to do with it, too.
