Matthew and Robbi are working on a book about robots. To get you in the mood to read about robots, I made one to show you. You’ll see the book soon, so I won’t spoil it for you, but I will say that the robots in the book are made of random junk just like mine is. I’m not as mechanically talented as I am crafty. Thus, my robot is not made of metals and motors. Rather, he is made from ribbon and gummy bears and he’s ready to go skiing!

Meet Gerald 653, my cheerful robot. His red gummy bear eyes glow in the night. When the sun is out, they act as sunglasses. With such versatile eyes, my robot can ski day and night.

This is the back of the robot. Not much to see here.

Unless you open it! It’s the control panel where all the big decisions are made such as how fast to go, how high to jump off slopes, or when to stop when the mechanisms get overheated. There’s even a knob to adjust how pointy his fork-skis are in case Gerald needs to poke something.

When I began making this robot I didn’t know that it would turn out with such a charming personality and be able to ski. Until I can take Gerald 653 to a snow-covered mountain, he lives under my desk with his predecessors.

I thought they’d be pretty happy down there together. However, this morning I had to glue one of Gerald’s eyes back on after Kato tried to eat it.
