We spend a lot of time wondering what all you kids out there are up to. We enjoy seeing your drawings when you send them to us and we love reading emails from you or your parents when you write to us know what you think about our books.

But it just occurred to me that you might sometimes wonder about what’s happening with the kids that live with Robbi and me in our barn. And so we’ll tell you.

Here’s a photo of Kato down by the river. He likes to lean against the railing and look down into the reeds along the shoreline. Right after this picture was taken, he spotted a flip-flop that someone had dropped, just sitting in the mud.

And here’s Alden. She has been taking Tang Soo Do, a Korean form of martial arts. Last week, she earned her very first belt.

She was very proud, and so were we.

And August has the biggest news of all. On the very same day that Alden earned her white belt, August stood for the first time.

He stood just like this for about 15 seconds, which was exciting, but the truth is, he didn’t mean to do it. He had been leaning against a box of toys, and when Kato pulled the box away, August didn’t realize he was standing. As soon as he did, he fell down, and hasn’t been inspired to stand up again since.

Clearly, the experience took it out of him. A few hours later, he fell asleep in the middle of the floor.

And there you have it. Three kids. Three little stories.

What did you do this weekend?
