Here are a few more responses to Monday’s prompt. Two came in after the deadline and one got lost in my inbox, but all three must be shared.

We’ll start with Ethel. I think it’s important to point out that not all members of the Bobbledy Books club are human. Ethel, for example, is a chihuahua. But this did not stop her from enjoying her Bobbledy Blog or writing us a note of appreciation.

Lucy sent us a very fine Blob-rendered drawing of herself on a hippo.

And here is a beautiful painting from Emily, which was not included in Thursday’s post because of the shambles of my inbox.

Emily’s mom included a note.

Hello to all, big and small!

So, Emily received her Bobbledy Blob in the mail yesterday afternoon, and she was intrigued.  She asked a million questions about its design and function, most of which I could not answer.  “You’re just supposed to color with it,” I suggested, but she wanted a deep, meaningful reason why suddenly all the colors were attached to one object instead of having 5 different crayons to keep track of.  To stop the onslaught of questions, I read her the blog entry with the drawing prompt, with the idea that she would use the Bobbledy Blob to draw the assigned picture.

But, as soon as she saw the picture of Alden painting on the floor, Emily eschewed both the Bobbledy Blob and her lovely easel and insisted that she should also sit on the floor to use her watercolors (see attached photo).  She worked diligently until dinnertime to complete her picture of herself riding on a giraffe.  She made a nod to Matthew’s suggestion of creating a fantasy animal by giving the giraffe ten legs and colorful spots.  In fact, she kept telling me, “It’s okay that he has so many legs. Alden’s Papa said that we could draw whatever we want.”  There was a bit of a crisis when she got so enthusiastic about the spots that she tore right through the paper, but in the end she was happy with her final product.

Anyway, I promised that I would send her drawing off to you today, and I just couldn’t resist including the photo of her recreating Alden’s creative process.  Hope that all of you are doing well.  Emily is already looking forward to her next drawing assignment.

Fondly,
Cathy

And here’s the photo of Emily painting.

Alden and Emily live too far away from one another (Maryland and Oklahoma) to play together very often. But I like that they can both paint on the floor and then share their creations online.

It’s almost as good as a hug.

But not quite.
