Last Friday, we asked kids to write stories in response to this painting by Robbi (which is currently being auctioned off on Ebay).

We also asked them to name the painting. Here are their titles and stories.

All the animals in the world are in a swimming race, but the Tricerotops can’t see because he’s blind. And the bird can see but can’t swim. The Tricerotops says to the bird, “Maybe you can help me get across the river since I can’t see.” And the bird says, “And you can help me get across the river since I can’t swim.” Both animals get across the finish line first!

Hide and Go Seek

Once upon a time there was a bird and a Tricerotops trying to play hide and seek. The dinosaur is looking and trying to find the bird, but the Triceretops doesn’t know where the bird is because the bird is on his head.

Claire (who went so far as to format her story with a decorative font!)

Alden

Dinosaur Bird

Once upon a time, there was a dinosaur and he lived in dinosaur land. Then a birdie came on his head and then the dinosaur squishes the bird, I think.

Friend or Foe?

Even when you’re big and strong and fearsome and aloof and you have long pointy horns, when someone small and cute and red and fluffy lands on your head and struts around like he owns the place, you sometimes have to fake a little smile and pretend that you don’t care—especially when there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it.

Just One Ride

Red Robin bird says to Dino: “Hey, can you give me a ride?  I want to go home.”

Dino says: “You have wings, why don’t you fly home on your own?”

Red Robin didn’t say anything.

Dino says: “… Ok.  You are so tiny, you are not even heavy.”

When they finally get to Red Robin’s home…

Guess what?  Red Robin just flew away.

Without asking Dino in for tea or snack.

Without saying thank you.

Not even a wave good-bye.

Joe went so far as to send his very own version of the painting.

Because we were so fond of Joe’s story, we used it as the product description on the auction for Robbi’s painting, the original of which is available via auction on Ebay. Think this triceratops might look good on your wall? Bid away.
