Well, hello everyone.
It’s me, Robbi.
Yes. You may have been wondering where I’ve been this past week. Matthew’s been full of enthusiasm and introductions and bright ideas and drawing projects and pictures of kids, while you’ve heard nary a peep from me. Well, let me tell you this: Matthew has the energy of ten thousand termites. I am the camel in this operation. If multi-tasking is the mode of the millenium, then I am woefully 20th century.
But that’s okay. When I have a mission, I can get it done. For example, my mission today was to pick up our very first Bobbledy Book from the printer’s. The printer is located in Columbia, Maryland, which is sort of near Baltimore, which is where Matthew sometimes works. Matthew had to go in to Baltimore for work, so I was to drop him off, drive down to Columbia, and then pick him up again at the end of the day.
After our long trip across the bay to Baltimore, I promised the kids a stop at the playground, where Alden showed off to interested onlookers (see: Kato).
Kato got the chance to address his loyal subjects from the tower of his castle.
I got the chance to sweat, and sweat, and sweat.
After we were thoroughly exhausted and sweaty, it was time for our book pick-up. We all piled back into the car, and Kato promptly threw up. I have learned that I lack the mom reflex that helpfully redirects vomit while it is being produced. So I just stood there while it made its way through all the nooks and crannies of his car seat. I used all of the wipes and stray napkins in the car to wipe things up. Sorry, no photos.
A half hour later, we arrived at the printer’s in Columbia. I should have photos of the actual pick-up here, but I forgot to take any because August had a major diaper blow-out, and since I had used up every scrap of napkin and wipe in the Great Disgorging of ’12, I was kind of in biohazard mode. At any rate, many boxes were collected.
On the way to pick Matthew up, another playground was visited. Kato had to climb in his skivvies because I hadn’t brought a back-up set of clothes.
Alden crashed a birthday party and insisted that she should get her share of the Minnie Mouse-themed party favors. I argued that she hadn’t actually been invited, so she really shouldn’t take any. She seemed to think that inviting herself should suffice. (No photos here, either, because, well, that argument never turns out well).
We returned to Baltimore to pick up Matthew and when we got home at 8 were finally able to break open the boxes and see our new babies.
Aren’t they BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL??? We owe a special special thanks to our printer Matt of Indigo Ink, who helped us put together our first book with truly beautiful paper, a yummy matte cover, and an inside front and back cover to delight. It delights me, anyway.
We celebrated with sushi. And with bananas. And with a new box of wipes! But not, evidently, with fresh clothes for Kato.
And to think that all of these shenanigans were to save us some money on postage. Ah well. In the end, we’re secretly super pleased with this book. We can’t wait to send it out into the world.
Mission accomplished.

I love that inside cover, too! The two-headed beast reminds of of Dr. Doolittle’s pushme-pullyou, always a happy thought.
