One thing we love about Bobbledy club members is that they keep having birthdays. Because birthdays mean great drawings in my inbox. Here’s the latest, from Sam, whose birthday was a week or so ago. For the record, Sam’s dad sent the image promptly, but it got lost in the roiling inferno of my inbox, and so we are forced to wish Sam a slightly belated happy birthday.

Or, perhaps, we are the first to wish him a happy birthday for next year?

In any case, here is Sam’s card.

And here’s what Sam had to say about the drawing: “The two lizards rode to the mountain and then there was a cannon that shot them to the sun.   They were protected by their special scales, which is why they are colored like that.” Sam’s dad adds,  “And the flag is because he wanted somewhere to put his name.”

And there you have it. Sam gives us imagination, aesthetics, and pragmatism in one simple drawing. What else can one ask for in a birthday card?

My favorite part is that the sun appears to be wearing sunglasses, perhaps to shield his eyes were he to look in the mirror? Well done, Sam.

And happy, happy birthday to you.
