It is hard to believe, but the next Bobbledy Book is done and ready to send out. It’s called Gorillas in the Kitchen, but we have no idea what it’s about because this is the book that Bobbledy kids will write themselves.
I’ve written the first page of the book, and Robbi has drawn simple pictures that appear throughout, but otherwise, the book is blank and waiting for kids to fill it up—with their stories and ideas and characters and drawings. This might be the most excited we’ve ever been to send out a book. We really can’t wait to see what you guys come up with.
Robbi and I have been busy putting Gorillas in the Kitchen together for the past couple of weeks. And when I say “putting it together,” I mean not just coming up with the idea and giving it a name and setting it all up in our computer, but, actually making it, with our own four hands.
We decided to make this book ourselves. So we printed it out on our printer, lots and lots of copies.
And then it was my job to staple all the pages together.
I have been making books for a long time now, and I’m pretty good at stapling, if I do say so myself.
And yet, sometimes I mess up. I don’t know why it is, but every once in a while, a staple just doesn’t go in all the way, or ends up getting all bent and crooked. When this happens, I have to pull out my staple remover and take out the bad staple.
This, my friends, is a bad staple.
And this, I’m afraid to admit, is a LOT of bad staples. Perhaps I’m not such a good stapler after all.
Nevertheless, after hours and hours of making books, we finally have one for each of the kids in the Bobbledy club.
Tomorrow, we’re going to put the books and envelopes and send them out into the world. Keep an eye on your mailbox. Those of you who live in Maryland might even get your books on Tuesday.
As soon as we send this book out, we’ll be waiting by our mailbox. Once the Bobbledy club members are finished writing their stories and illustrating their books, we’ve asked them to send their finished work to us. We’re going to pick one kid-written/ kid-illustrated book to publish and have professionally printed to send out to all the other kids in the club. One of you guys is going to have a published book within a few months!
Are you as excited as we are? I don’t think it’s possible.
