The other day, Alden’s friend Iris came over from Baltimore for a visit. Because we live mere moments away from a classy, high-end bakery with a classy, high-end espresso machine (La Marzocco), we took Iris (and her parents, who are far more interested than is Iris in espresso) for a short walk to Evergrain.
While there, Alden and Iris discovered the true joy of espresso has nothing to do with the rejuvenating lift of caffeine.
The next time you are in Evergrain, please take a moment to notice that the alluring sheen of La Marzocco is a near-perfect facsimile of a funhouse mirror.
Bring your parents if you must (especially if they love espresso), but if they try to persuade you La Marzocco is not for making funny faces, feel free to tell them they are mistaken. Tell them, if they press the point, that if inducing smiles from the youngest patrons were not its true aim, then La Marzocco should never have been designed this way. And you can tell them I told you so.
On second thought, don’t. Please pretend it was your own idea. I promise they’ll love you for it.
