Hello Everyone!
We have reached the end of George Washington week! I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Now is my favorite day of the week, when I get to share my favorite drawings, stories, and other kid-submitted stuff from the past five days. Here goes!
Let’s get started with a picture/story combo from Harvey, titled “George Washington Goes to Karate School”:
Here’s Harvey’s story:
Once George Washington went to Karate School. His teacher was a ninja. He got a uniform. He got a belt. When he was done with karate, he got so excited that he chopped an apple tree and lost his teeth. He went to the dentist the next day. He made applesauce. George Washington became a president but never became a ninja.
Harvey, as usual, you have written and excellent story. First of all, I had no idea that George Washington knew karate. No wonder he was such a great general. No wonder he was chosen to be the first president. If there was a battle and one general knew karate and the other one didn’t, who do you think would win? That’s what I thought. If you were voting for president and one candidate knew karate and the other one didn’t, who would you choose? Of course you would choose the karate guy. So would I. So would EVERYONE else. I also did not know that one of the side effects of chopping down trees was tooth loss. Thank you for this information. I am now going to change my plans for the weekend.
Here is Tyler’s picture of Abraham Lincoln:
And here is Tyler’s story:
This is a picture of Abraham Lincoln because it’s President’s Day and you can celebrate any president you want. I picked him because I just like drawing him. He’s digging for gold because he’s poor and only has 1 cent. He’s going to save up his money so he can be even more rich than George Washington. Once he has all the gold, he’ll have 1 zigglion and 50 dollars.
Tyler, I applaud your sense of independence. It takes a bold fellow to draw Abraham Lincoln during George Washington week. This kind of fortitude will serve you well in life. I see in your story a kind of parable. A rags-to-riches tale of the downtrodden boy making good through sheer tenacity. My favorite part, your Abraham Lincoln is so ambitious that he will not settle for merely obtaining one zigglion dollars. No, he will not stop until he has the extra fifty. It is this extra layer of grit and determination that makes him awesome enough to deserve a place here on the Bobbledy Blog during George Washington week.
But here’s my other question: Will you send us a picture of George Washington during Abraham Lincoln week? I can’t wait to find out.
Spencer drew a picture of George Washington and his gold:
Spencer wrote:
George Washington has so much gold that he is throwing it in the air. He has $100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.99.
Spencer, I sense a little bit of sibling rivalry afoot. For those of you who do not know, Spencer and Tyler are brothers. I am personally delighted that while Tyler was busy running up Abraham Lincoln’s bank account, Spencer has been doing his best to make sure George Washington is as rich as possible, too.
Here’s the problem, because I do not know how many zeros there are in one zigillion, I cannot determine whether Tyler’s Lincoln or Spencer’s Washington is, in fact, the richer ex-president. Can anyone enlighten me? If this can’t be worked out, we might just have to let them wrestle. Could either you, Spencer, or you, Tyler, draw a picture of this epic battle and send it to us, please?
Note: Spencer’s GW has the same flair for details as did Tyler’s Lincoln, refusing to round his nest egg to the nearest dollar. That 99 cents if a mark of true character. And not a penny more.
Here is Alden’s drawing of George Washington and his dogs:
Well, done, Alden! I think you have perfectly captured George’s oddball haircut and pack of multi-colored dogs. History may not remember that various of his dogs had metallic coats, but if you have drawn it thus, it must be true. I’m particularly fond of Sweet Lips (which was the actual name of one of George Washington’s dogs) and PickleKnockKnock (which definitely wasn’t).
Here is Alden working on her drawing.
And here is Kato’s story and drawing of George Washington dancing:
In case you can’t read it, Kato’s story reads as follows
George Washington was dancing. And he had scribbles on him. He loved dancing and he had a dress and he listened to the beat of the music. There was drums and basses and all kinds of music. It made him feel happy.
Kato, I love your drawing of George Washington. And I’m glad that I’m not the only one who think his funny old-time clothes make him look like he was wearing a dress. As for the scribbles on him, I’m pretty sure you put them there. Didn’t you? If not, who did? And for the record, as much as music made George Washington happy, your drawing makes me even happier.
Here is Kato getting a bit of a drawing tutorial from Robbi:
In response to the final question in the KidQuiz (If you could be president for a day, what would you do?):
Alden said:
If I were president, I would put my money someplace, in a big money chest. I would give some money to other people if they didn’t really have any money to buy food. I would help other people if they needed help like if they broke their leg and needed help to walk I would help them walk to the hospital.
Alden, I love you for being so generous of spirit, but might I suggest that with part of your fortune, you invest in an ambulance?
Kato said:
I would do the same things as George Washington did because I like his jobs.
Kato, I applaud you for pragmatism. We learn from the great ones by imitating their actions. I hope that you become president and extremely wealthy, but please don’t chop down any trees, because I want you to keep your teeth.
Harry said:
If I were president for a day, I would tell people to go play and do good things. I would give everyone a toy plane and a big toy dinosaur.
Harry, I would like to to clarify: when you say “everyone” will get a plane and dinosaur, are you including me? Because I have been hoping for a plane and dinosaur for quite some time, and no one will give them to me. Not even Robbi. I need to know, because I am prepared to be your campaign manager, publicist, and political action committee. You say the word, and I’m in. I really, really want a plane and dinosaur.
And Harvey said:
If I were president for a day, I would make sure everybody exercises in the gym. And if anyone does anything cool and good, they would get a big bag of candies from his/her coach. But if anyone did anything wrong, they would not be able to get candies for two days.
Hmmm. Suddenly, I’m torn. I could vote for Harry and get a dinosaur and plane or I could vote for Harry and get a big bag of candies. But I’d also have to do exercises. And it’s almost impossible for me to avoid doing things wrong.
And now comes the moment we’ve all been waiting for. At least the moment I’ve been waiting for. It is a difficult task to choose just one kid to name the expert of the week, because it’s clear that all of you know an awful lot about George Washington. And yet, forced to decide . . .
I choose Spencer as the George Washington Expert! WELL DONE, SIR!
Not only does your drawing of George Washington feature a pile of gold that would make a dragon proud, but your George is capable of juggling at least 40 piece of gold without batting an eyelash. Now THAT is the kind of awesomeness that makes someone presidential material.
Keep your eye out for a print of Robbi’s drawing of George Washington that will be coming to you in the mail!
Thanks, everyone, for sharing your drawings and stories with us.
