Hello Folks –
Well, you might have noticed that we have not been on top of things this week over here on the Bobbledy Blog. I have been avoiding writing this post because I’m SO SAD to write it, but here goes: we won’t be doing Themes of the Week anymore for the foreseeable future.
Here’s the thing: we LOVE the theme of the week. I love doing the research for the info post (I’ve totally learned a lot!). Matthew loves having an excuse to write something he wouldn’t ordinarily write. I love having something to draw and put up for auction.
And most of all, we LOVE hearing from you guys.
BUT – it’s a lot of work. And we have a lot of other work that we do and that we would like to share with you, but we’ve gotten so bogged down with the theme of the week stuff that we can’t do all (or any) of it as well as we want to.
AND – we’ve done an informal survey of why (and why not) people participate in the theme, and mostly it comes down to the fact that all of YOU are also super busy. And we even got a lot of parents professing to feeling super guilty that they forgot to participate or forgot to send their kids’ drawings etc. We don’t want to make you feel guilty!
SO – it kind of all boils down to the idea that the Theme of the Week seems to be hard on everyone.
HOWEVER! We still want to hear from you! We still want to post your stories and drawings! I know Harvey, for one, writes and draws every week, and I hope we keep hearing from him! We’ll still have questions and specific times when we ask you to post your drawings or stories, it just won’t be as regular and structured as it has been. Hopefully this frees up those of you who have been feeling guilty for missing deadlines to just post when you’ve got something to share (hint hint hint).
In the future, you can look forward to seeing more posts about how WE make books/write stories/draw pictures – for example, right now we’re working on a book that will be published by LB Kids next year that we want to show you some process pictures of. And whenever I come across something fun or interesting that I think you’ll like, I’ll throw up a post. And we’ll definitely still do book reviews, because they’re fun to do, and it’s fun to share the great books that we come across.
So please stick with us and don’t despair. There will still be fun stuff to see and do here, more so if you all continue to participate and share the awesome drawings and stories that you are making at home.
We’ll see you soon! (Like, later today!)
Robbi and Matthew,
Although I am a faithful “Idiots” and “Bobbledy” reader (and regular guesser of “Matthew Draws!”) I have to admit that I *have* been feeing guilty about not having my kids participate, which I intend to do each week and then…life. I can totally understand you putting this on the back burner for now. You have a lot going on!
I am constantly amazed and inspired by both of you (and August’s hair) and have shared many a Behr/Swanson entry/photo/antidote with my husband. I hope to see you sometime at a workshop – or donut shop.
You guys are the best.
Adrian Kosmicki
Thank you for the moral support, Adrian! We really are super bummed that we don’t have all the time in the world to keep doing it. At least we can feel better that we are no longer making you feel guilty. 🙂
And apologies for doing the double whammy of no more Theme of the Week and cutting August’s hair all in one fell swoop. We hope you recover soon…
Ditto what Adrian said. Also did you know Calli already has homework at the age of 5?? It boggles my mind.
ditto, ditto, ditto. (I’m too busy to write anything more)
