It has been chilly the last few nights in Chestertown. The kids have had to put on their fall pajamas, and we’ve had to snuggle down beneath our blankets at night. It seems that summer is officially over, which makes us think back on the summer and all the fun things we did. We took a trip to Massachusetts to visit my mom and a trip to Atlanta for my grandma’s 90th birthday party. And we also went to Alaska to go fishing, which is something we do every summer.

Looking back, it’s hard to know for sure what my favorite part of summer was. And so it seemed to me that the question would make a good drawing prompt. So here goes:

What was your favorite part of summer? Draw a picture of what you did. And tell us where you did it.

My favorite part of the summer was driving on four-wheelers in Alaska. Four-wheelers are a cross between a car and a motorcycle. They have four wheels, but you sit on top of them instead of sitting inside of them. And because they have big wheels with deep tread, you can ride them anywhere and not just on roads.

Here I am with my kids on the four wheeler.

And here is Kato giving it a try on his own.

And here is my drawing of myself on the four-wheeler. My favorite memory of summer.

Robbi is apparently still trying to figure out what her favorite part of summer was, and so she’s going to wait and post her drawing next Tuesday with the rest of you.

You know what to do. Take out your crayons, paints, pencils, pens, markers, or anything else you have on hand. Make a drawing and send it to us. And remember, you don’t have to be a kid to participate. And you don’t have to be a good artist. See the drawing above for proof of this fact.
