Right now, Robbi and I are working on the next Bobbledy Book. It’s called The Imaginary Dragon, and it’s about a dragon named Bill who thinks he is imaginary. He thinks he is imaginary because someone tells him he’s imaginary. But someone once told me that I was a chicken and I’m clearly not a chicken, right? The last time I checked, I was a man with two arms and no wings.
In the same way, our dragon friend Bill really isn’t imaginary, but he spends the whole book worrying that maybe he is and trying to find out for sure.
Here’s Bill.
See how worried Bill is that he might be imaginary? He can’t even tell if his tail is real. Poor Bill. He is the walking epitome of an existential crisis.
Here’s the thing, Bill is real. He’s real in the world of our book. But as far as we know, there aren’t any pink dragons named Bill in the real world. Which makes him imaginary in the real world. Things that are imaginary live inside our heads. Bill was born in my head, because I thought him up.
For this week’s prompt, draw something that is born in your head, something that is real in your mind (because anything can be real in your mind) but imaginary in the world. You can draw a dragon or a unicorn or a six-headed leprechaun if you want to. Or you can draw something completely new that no one has ever seen before. That’s the great thing about imagination. No one can tell you what you can or can’t imagine. It’s entirely up to you.
Send us your drawings by next Tuesday evening (May 14) so we can post them next Wednesday.
Happy drawing (and happy imagining).
