Hello everyone. Now that we are back from Alaska, we are eager to jump back into doing our weekly prompts with you. So eager, in fact, that Alden has already done her drawing for the week. In fact, she did it before I even got up this morning.

Because Alaska is four time zones ahead of Maryland, the mornings have been really tough. I usually get up around 6:30 in the morning, which is 2:30 in the morning in Alaska. I’ve been making myself get up, but it hasn’t been easy. Robbi has been struggling too. She got out of bed this morning, but she didn’t make it very far.

Even though I was tired and bleary-eyed when  I stumbled out of bed at 8:30 this morning, Alden was sitting at her drawing table in the living room drawing with energy and purpose.

I asked her what she was drawing, she told me that it was a picture of “me and Madeline and Mary Jane and Quinten and Kato and August on a way to a playdate at Alison’s house.” Apparently, I am driving.

When I asked her about the orange squares to the left of the car, she explained that “first I wanted to make bricks but then I wanted the blue sky to fill up everything!” A moment later, she added, “But also some grass.”

Inspired by Alden’s enthusiastic depiction of enjoying summer with her friends, this week’s writing prompt is:

Draw a picture of what you and your friends are doing together this summer. Are you going to the beach, eating ice cream cones, running through sprinklers, or building elaborate castles out of popsicle sticks?

Whatever it is, draw us a picture and send it our way by next Monday afternoon so that I can post it on the blog next Tuesday (July 30).
