I remember when I was five and my mom took me to see my first movie in a movie theater. It was Pinocchio. I was very excited. For the first part of the movie, I had a great time. It was great seeing everything so big on the screen, and I loved feeling like I was surrounded by sound. I was a little worried when Pinocchio started misbehaving on Pleasure Island and got pretty nervous when he started turning into a donkey. But nothing prepared me for Monstro. If you haven’t seen Pinocchio, Monstro is a blue whale. And believe me, he is VERY SCARY. When Monstro appeared, I disappeared. Right under my seat. Even after Monstro was gone, I refused to come back out.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the end of Pinocchio.

This week’s prompt is to draw something scary.

I’m going to draw Monstro (and will post it for all of you to see next Tuesday), but what are you going to draw? It can be anything you’re scared of (or used to be scared of). It can be a lion or a tiger or a dinosaur or perhaps, if you are middle aged like me, you will draw a portrait of creaking knees, stacks of bills, or the failure to live up to one’s dreams. It’s entirely up to you.

Here’s a drawing by Robbi to get you started.

She is afraid of things that slither. Thinks like snakes and eels. Though she does like to eat eels. But this eel is not on a plate. This eel is electric and swimming around eager to nibble on Robbi’s toes.

AS A REMINDER: We are switching the dates of these prompts just a bit. Your drawings are now due by NEXT MONDAY. And we’ll be posting the results on Tuesday. Sorry to switch it up on you, but we’re hoping that this will be the last time.

Happy drawing!
