Last week we asked you to send us drawings of what you and your friends are doing to have fun this summer.
Here’s what Tyler had to share:
“This is a beach with all of my friends, including me. It is Kings Beach in Tahoe. All of us are laughing on the beach and having fun together. Myself is in the picture and also Spencer, my brother. Also Derek and Brandon and Allison and Connor are there, too. We’re playing with sand, laying down and making prints of ourselves.”
Clearly, Tyler knows how to live it up in the summer months.
As for Spencer:
“This is a picture of me rollerskating at North Star in Lake Tahoe. The person underneath the canopy is a guy that’s having a rest from rollerskating. There are other people walking around the rink. Up above are stores, including an Earth store where you can buy all sorts of things. If you go upstairs, there’s all sorts of fun stuff to do, like: bungee jumping on a trampoline and a cool jungle gym. The most fun of all is the treasure hunt. You buy a packet of sand with jewels and fossils in it. How you do it is that you pour it inside a little sifter and then put it in the water and shuffle it up. Then you lift it up. The sand has gone into the stream and after that it’s just the gems and fossils. I got moonstone, fool’s gold, sharks teeth, coral, and all sorts of other gems. I think that was awesome fun.”
Holy cow. I wonder if one of the things you can buy at the Earth store is Earth itself? And I wonder if, after accumulating all that treasure, Spencer is rich enough to buy it? If so, Spencer might soon be the president (or is it King) of Earth, which makes me glad that I know him.
Also: I love the colors he chose for this drawing. Very sophisticated. I can almost feel the late afternoon sunshine on my face.
And now for Alden’s drawing(s):
Because we’ve spent so much time in Alaska this summer, Alden has not had as much time as she would like to play with her friends. But she has spent a lot of time playing with them in her imagination. And on pieces of paper. If there is a recurring theme to Alden’s work, it is friendship, and specifically, the “Three Sisters,” which is what she and her friends Madeline and Mary Jane have dubbed themselves. Here then, I present to you, several studies from the ongoing Three Sisters series.
Three Sisters Fly Kites
Three Sisters Waving Flags at the Beach
Two Sisters Fly Kites While the Third (Tallest) Sister Watches Happily
Three Sisters Under the Rainbow While One Sister Plays Xylophone, Another Sister Beholds the Awesomeness of Levitating Xylophone Mallets, and the Third (Tallest) Sister Looks on Happily
Finally, a drawing from Robbi:
Robbi says: “As you might know, as a kid my summer vacations weren’t full of swimsuits, pools, and ice cold lemonade, but I DID get to spend all summer at the beach (albeit in fifty degree weather). One of my favorite past times was skipping rocks with my older brother and sister. Both had very good arms and could really get the rocks to skip far on calm days (14 skips! 15! 17! 23!), but my sister had the advantage of a keen eye and patience, and would find the very best, very flattest rocks to skip. She was usually the champion, though as the least talented skipper among us, I can say for sure that the losers even got to feel the thrill of a really good throw.”
I cannot skip stones. I am lucky to get one bounce, let alone 23.
As for me:
I don’t have any friends. And, as a result, no fun. Here is what it looks like:
