I used to have dreams all the time that I could fly. I didn’t need an airplane, or wings, or a cape, and I didn’t have to flap my arms. I’d just take a running start and jump off into the air. For some reason, I don’t have those dreams that often anymore, and I miss them. The best part about my flying dreams was that I knew they were dreams, so flying wasn’t very scary. But I’ve often wondered if I actually had the ability to fly, where would I go?
I’m actually kind of scared of being way up high. It makes my heart race and my belly tickle in a way I don’t really like. I don’t like ferris wheels or standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon, and as for the St. Louis Arch, forget it.
So, if I could fly, I don’t think I’d use my powers and suddenly become some kind of daredevil. I think I’d fly down low, way below the clouds. Maybe over the water. In the evening, when everything is quiet and slow and you can hear the world better.
So, I’m pretty much a chicken. But I think I could really enjoy the low-key, low-risk, lily-livered, sensitive-type style of flying.
So, here’s your drawing prompt for this week: If you could fly, where would you go? Would you fly over mountains or to the North Pole? Or would you just fly to school and the grocery store?
When you’re done with your drawing, scan it or take a picture of it and send it to Matthew so he can post it next Tuesday for everyone to see. I can’t wait to see where you all will fly!
