Hello everyone!
This morning Matthew woke up and ran to his computer to check his email. He has been anxiously waiting, you see, for responses to last week’s drawing prompt. He opened his inbox and cried.
“Woe is me!” he lamented. “This will be the first week that the only people who responded to our drawing prompt are our own children!”
“It’s okay, Matthew,” I said. “People are busy. They have things to do. Sometimes sitting down for five minutes to draw something can seem taxing when everyone’s noses are snotty, the laundry is piling up, the cat threw up on the stairs, and the baby needs three kinds of ointment to take care of his rash. We just need to keep posting the drawing prompts, and pretty soon there will be enough people doing it that not everyone can possibly have snotty noses, laundry, cat barf and rashes to take care of all in the same week.”
The operative words here, really, were “keep posting the drawing prompts.” I checked the blog and noticed this:
Ah. Do you see the word “draft” there? That means that although Matthew had written the drawing prompt, he had forgotten to post it. And here we thought you all were just through with drawing.
In the haze of our long days standing in the booth at AWP, in fact, Matthew had apparently not only forgotten to post the prompt, he had also forgotten that he had already written it.
So, he actually neglected to post the drawing prompt on two separate occasions.
Which, actually, didn’t make him feel any better.
All of this is to say, sorry about forgetting to post the drawing prompt last week. Expect it on Friday. We might even post it twice, by accident.
