A couple weeks ago our drawing prompt was to draw a city. I recently got a job to illustrate a city for a magazine article. The magazine has just been published, so I can share my illustration with you guys.

Cityscape Mashup

It’s a fun drawing, because I got to include real buildings from a bunch of different cities. See if you can spot them:

      the

train station

      in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

      the

main square

      in Brussels, Belgium

      the

Badshahi Mosque

      in Lahore, Pakistan

      the

Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial

      church in Berlin, Germany

      the

Chrysler Building

      in New York City

      the

Washington Monument

    in Washington, DC

(And notice how in a drawing like this, I get to take lots of liberties. Those buildings from Brussels, for example… too many windows! Too ornate! Too much detail! So I kinda fudged it.)

Here’s how it looks in the magazine:

It was a fun job. Not a bad way to make a buck. Thanks, Writer’s Chronicle, for getting this crazy city out of my head and onto paper!
