For all you local yokels out there (or for anyone within driving distance) – the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince is throwing its second annual block party, right around the corner from the barn! Block parties are awesome, but the Garfield really knows how to throw a good shindig. Last year, in spite of the rain, we had a ton of fun.

There were jugglers on stilts:

Jugglers

Tall, talented and (apparently) terrifying.

There were all kinds of games and food and general hoopla.

Alden and Kato discovered that though the sign says you need to throw three in a row to win a lollipop:

Three in a Row

there really wasn’t anyone in charge doing any kind of regulation:

They actually didn’t figure this out until after many many rounds of beanbag tossing and seeing many many other children stroll up to the basket without throwing anything and grab a lolly (in defense of those other kids, we were kind of monopolizing the beanbag game). Unfortunately, they soon discovered that even if there isn’t anyone official policing the lollipop intake, some unofficial parental types can always step in and spoil all the fun.

Hopefully if any of you out there are close enough to make the drive, you’ll come out for the block party tomorrow (FRIDAY) night from 6-9pm on High Street in downtown Chestertown. We’ll be there dancing to the Pam Ortiz Band, eating popcorn and trying to keep our children from overdosing on free lollies.
