Drawing Prompt: Floating

Drawing Prompt: Floating

Last week Robbi asked you to draw flying scenes. Now I am asking you to draw a floating scene.

Here is Michaelson. He likes to float. In this scene he is floating on the ocean between Panama and Ecuador. He used to take longer trips, such as his 1999 float from Brazil to Nigeria. But now, as an old blub-grub, (Michaelson is a blub-grub), he likes to float shorter distances. Long distances are for younger, more sprightly blub-grubs. Michaelson’s favorite part of floating has always been the migrating butterflies. They pass over him for hours.

Here’s the drawing prompt for this week: Have you ever floated? Maybe you’ve floated at the beach or in the bathtub. Draw yourself, or a cat, or a blub-grub, floating somewhere. Would you float on your back like Michaelson, or in a boat like a sailor, or on an inflatable giraffe? If you need some ideas, watch a rubber ducky float in the sink.

When you’re done with your drawing, scan it or take a picture of it and send it to Matthew so he can post it next Tuesday for everyone to see.

Drawing Prompt: Elves

Drawing Prompt: Elves

Ho-ho-hello!

I’ve been thinking about Santa and the elves. I don’t know about you, but I think that those elves must have super powers to be able to make so many toys and beautiful presents. The elf that makes presents for me is named Ellix. Here he is in his workshop:

Ellix has super hairy ears because he is so wise. He is eight-hundred and forty-six years old, so he has to wear goggles to improve his vision. Even though he’s old, Ellix is still magical, which is why he doesn’t need hinges or a doorknob on his door. I’m not sure what he’s making for me, but it looks pretty. Maybe it’s a plant that I can watch grow.

Here’s the drawing prompt for this week: Draw an elf! What is his name? What is the elf making? Is he/she making something for you or someone you know? Is your elf really good at making one type of thing? The possibilities are endless!

When you’re done with your drawing, scan it or take a picture of it and send it to Matthew so he can post it next Tuesday.

Drawing Prompt: Rainbows

Drawing Prompt: Rainbows

Hello all you kids and other people,

Last night I had a dream that I was doing something that I’ve always wanted to do. I was standing inside of a rainbow! I looked down at my body and clothing and it was all glowing with whatever color of the rainbow was touching it. I could also feel the electricity that was flowing through the rainbow. I never even considered that rainbows might have electricity until I had that dream. The dream reminded me of how much I love rainbows.

Here’s the drawing prompt for this week: Draw a rainbow! Maybe you love rainbows as much as I do, or maybe you detest them. You can draw a rainbow you’ve seen before, or an imaginary rainbow. Maybe you’ll draw a double rainbow, or a triple rainbow! Your drawing could have people watching the rainbow, or throwing stones at it, or sliding down it, or anything!

When you’re done with your drawing, scan it or take a picture of it and send it to Matthew so he can post it next Tuesday.

Drawing Prompt: Self-Portraits as Old People!

Drawing Prompt: Self-Portraits as Old People!

If I were an old lady, I’d be Grandma Tan-ma who lives in Panama. I’ve always wanted to try living in a tropical place. And I’d love to dye clothing in the swamp three days a week, which is what Grandma Tan-ma is known for. She’s seventy-five years old and everyone in her town knows her for the beautiful colors and patterns that she prints, paints and dyes onto fabrics. Every Friday, she goes into the swamp, where she has a studio near all the plants needed for making dyes, and she makes lots and lots of t-shirts, sheets, and scarves. She doesn’t come out of the swamp until Sunday at sunset. That’s what she does every week! Grandma Tan-ma has dyed and painted on so many garments that she can’t even begin to guess how many she’s done. Here she is with her latest creation:

When she’s not in the swamp practicing her craft, she’s either roasting in the sun on the beach, which is why she is so tan, or she’s playing chess with other grandmas, also on the beach.

Being me is pretty great, but being Grandma Tan-ma would be a lot of fun too. Sometimes I wonder what I’ll be like when I’m old. Maybe I’ll move to Panama and become a master textile artist.

Here’s the drawing prompt for this week: What will you be like when you are old? Draw yourself as an old lady or old man. What do you want to do when you are much, much older, like a grandma or a grandpa? Will you be a master of something? Will you still like to play the same games that you play now? Will you be taller? There’s no way to know what you’ll be like when you’re much older, but it’s fun to imagine.

When you’re done with your drawing, scan it or take a picture of it and send it to Matthew so he can post it next Tuesday.

Drawing Prompt: A Non-Traditional Thanksgiving

Drawing Prompt: A Non-Traditional Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving Bobbledy Gobblers!

I’m guessing that you all ate delicious potatoes and cranberry mush with your loving families yesterday. You were probably with at least one family member in a (hopefully) cozy home. Most likely, there were traditional dishes displayed on a festive table setting. There’s a good chance that you ran around the house playing with cousins. But what if you didn’t? What if you didn’t have Thanksgiving with your family, or the way that you’ve celebrated it before? Where would you be and who would you be with? What would you eat?

If I didn’t have Thanksgiving with my family I would be with a black rabbit and a black cat in a backyard underneath some bushes. That’s where the rabbit lives. The cat lives at the house at the other end of the yard. (They became friends the other day when the cat chased a mouse underneath the bush where the rabbit lives.) The cat would eat a whole fish and the rabbit would get to eat a whole bowl of fresh carrots. The rabbit would prepare a big bowl of spinach for dessert, knowing that the cat doesn’t like spinach, and he would get to have it all to himself.

That is, until I showed up! I love spinach! If my family completely forgot about Thanksgiving and decided to go about their regular routines on Thanksgiving Day, I would join the black rabbit and the black cat. I would get to eat the extra spinach.

Here’s the prompt for this week: Draw what you would be doing and eating, and who you would be with to celebrate Thanksgiving if you couldn’t have it with your family. My rabbit and cat friend keep it pretty simple and fairly traditional on Thanksgiving, but maybe you wouldn’t. Would you sit on a cloud fishing for raindrops to make special Thanksgiving water? Would you crawl under your bed and have dinner with all the dust-monsters and their babies? Or would you just go to your neighbor’s house?

When you’re done with your drawing, scan it or take a picture of it and send it to Matthew so he can post it next Tuesday.
